Tips: Question/Answer Types
ViewsCount has a wide range of different question types, layout options and parameters that can be used to pose different types of questions, and add variety and interest to your survey.
SURVEY QUESTION/ANSWER TYPES
Single Selection
Allows only one response to be selected, such as a yes or no question, or one where only one option would be relevant. Single selection questions can also be used for branching - to jump users to areas of the survey which are relevant to them. E.g. "Are you...", "How many..." etc.
Multiple Selection
Allows more than one response to be selected, consists of usually more than three exclusive categories and can be single or multiple answer, with an 'other (please state)' option. E.g. "How did/do you..."
Range Selection
Responses are in the form of a range where a set of answers can be placed against each part of the question. Up to 25 options can be set and is useful when a 'rating' is asked for on, for example, different aspects of a product or service. For example "Based upon your experience, please rank the following seasons with '1' being your favourite and '4' being your least favourite...." or "Please indicate whether you agree strongly, agree, disagree with the following statements" etc.
Free Text
Provides the opportunity for further exploration in a topic, as the respondent has the chance to give a more in-depth response or general comments. Response boxes are provided in a choice of sizes to encourage respondees to provide more or less in the way of a comment. For example "What improvements could be made to our website?"
Contact Form
Provided as a template, the contact form will request the Title, Initials, Last Name, Address, Postcode, Telephone and Email of clients. You may wish to remind your respondees at this point how you will use this information.
Information Points
An information point provides rather than collects information. It is used to provide information either in response to answers given, or as a generic guidance point. It can also be used to break up a larger survey into sections, by providing section headings.
Terms and Conditions statement
If you are providing a service, which might be eligible to certain groups only, you may wish to incorporate a terms and conditions statement at the start of your survey. A terms and conditions statement can be incorporated via use of a single selection question. Simply include your statement of terms and conditions within the page (for instance as text, or an attached document) and pose a simple question as to whether the respondee agrees to the terms and conditions stated. Set as a mandatory question, the respondee will not be able to progress until he/she has agreed to your statement of terms.
Exit Points
This is the final page of the survey, and is the point at which the respondee's answers are saved to the database. Multiple exit points are supported, and combined with branching can provide information pertinent to specific groups of repondees' needs/interests. It is also very useful to thank the respondents for participating in the survey. A programmable button can also be included on the exit page to return the respondee to another web page or resource or to simply close the window.
